One of the things being worked on in Dolphin are huge updates to the USB code, which would allow passthrough of Wii Speak, Microphone and Webcam for various games. The problem is: the LibUSB implementation we use on Windows does not support isochronous transfers, meaning these changes would be for Linux only.
We can, however, switch to a newer LibUSB driver, usbdk. It has several benefits, but some potential downsides. Benefits: • No more Zadig. Install the usbdk driver and everything works.
Even devices you've never used before. • Updated with isochronous transfer support, allowing Wii Speak and USB Microphone Support. USB Camera still does not work, but, we've reported the bug. Downsides: • This is a newer driver that has some issues here and there. These shouldn't affect basic functionality (Bluetooth Passthrough/GC Adapter Passthrough,) but it definitely could have issues with the microphones and control transfers. • Users would have to install the USBDK driver. Thankfully, it's a one time install and won't override anything else.
• Windows likes to make the 'device found' sound when first booting up Dolphin. This is due to the nature of no longer having to override the drivers of the devices. So, before we move forward with this, we wanted some opinions on this.
Are people okay with changing to a new USB Passthrough driver? Would users rather wait an undetermined amount of time for updates to the current LibUSB driver? Do the benefits sound worth the risk of using a newer driver? Thank you ahead for your feedback, I'll be watching the thread and try to answer any questions or concerns. For people who are willing to test it, here's the WIP pull request. I've tested this on my Windows machine and it does work.
YourShape and the other USB Camera games may crash Dolphin. Installing the usbdk driver will not affect the functionality of other builds of Dolphin to my knowledge. I was able to use passthrough functionality on the old backend with the usbdk driver installed.
The usbdk installer can be found here: Direct auto-updating link to the Dolphin build: Edit: Forgot to mention; Wii Speak, USB Microphone and USB Camera require the hardware used with the Wii. Dolphin has a whitelist functionality to prevent it from using devices you don't want it to use, and they still must be added to the whitelist here. A guide on how to do that can be found here: You can add any of those devices to the whitelist via Configuration/Wii tab in Dolphin's file menu. The guide doesn't do a good job of explaining that.
The Zadig part can be ignored, obviously:) • • • •.
