The Horseflies-Human Fly My parents saw these guys at a bluegrass festival a few years back. Apparently they've been around since the late 70s, and I could easily picture them playing CBGBs on the same night as Television or Talking Heads or any of those nominally 'punk' bands that had expansive sounds that quickly eclipsed three chords.

They describe themselves as avant-bluegrass, and I was shocked to hear the start of this album. It's nominally a cover of Human Fly by the Cramps, but they're doing all this Steve Reich-style percussive repitition. Electronic sounds jump about, tracks pan, there's some african drumming and generally nothing you'd traditionally associate with bluegrass, at least until the violin kicks in. I'll leave the rest of the discussion of this for after people have listened.
