Vox Pathfinder 15r Review
They are a great sounding amp for the money. And part of me hates to say 'for the money' because their clean tone is better than amps costing a bit more. I bought one with the 'R' and I run a reverb pedal in front of it and it sounds great.
Very warm, sounds bigger than an 8' 15 watter because they've got a good resonant cabinet design. But their OD tones aren't that great, but it still sounds surprisingly good if you just put something simple like a bad monkey OD pedal in front of it. I use mine in my bedroom and I'm quite happy with it for that purpose. It sits right next to my bed and there's a guitar there to so I can squeeze in some extra play time now and then. Based upon the one I have (it has tremolo but not reverb), the clean tone is really quite nice, although not very loud. The tremolo is also quite good sounding. Mine rattled quite a bit when I got it, so I took it apart, shoved weatherstripping foam between the chassis and the cab, tightened the screws, and now it doesn't rattle.

The overdrive (actuated by punching a little square button) is very noisey and horrible sounding (second only to the distortion channel in a Roland JC-120 - the worst I've ever heard). So if you're a 'clean' player and need something for the bedroom or for recording at low volume, it's a pretty decent little amp. The cleans and verb are pretty good.it still has a bit of that solid state 'stringyness' (I have a hard time describing what I hear as solid state in the clean, but it's there) but the voicing and balance are nice. Tone falls apart pretty quick when you turn it up, for the bedroom/house only for sure. Horrid overdrive.
The VOX Pathfinder 10 guitar amplifier provides an affordable eye-catching classic VOX look in compact, warm sounding 10-watt guitar combo. Oct 19, 2012 Hi guys I'v been looking at buying a vox pathfinder 15r. I'v heard some good reviews about it and for the price its a niffty little thing i also. The Vox Pathfinder 15R is a single channel solid state amp with good tone at an entry level price with built in reverb. Learn Math Fast Program Families here.
I've heard worse solid state amps for sure but honestly I'm not sure how you could be happy with it if you're coming from a good amp. I think a Champ 600 sounds a lot better for home use, small speaker be dammned. Find a post by Highway61. He has a UTuB clip with one in his sig. For what he does, it sounds fantastic. I love my AD15vt. It does anything but stage volume.
DCinDC, Thank you very much. The amp in the vid, though, is my Danelectro Nifty Seventy. However, I just purchased a new Vox to replace one that I had (quite stupidly) sold. It's the Pathfinder 10, though.
I like the 10 better than either of the 15s (5810 or 6810). Here's the audio clip that I believe you are referring to: Daisy Rock Retro H and the Pathfinder 10.
Today you can get modeler amps for the same price with a ton more features.Vox has been getting more and more into the small amp market. It seems the highest they really go is the. Even though they have had and still do have a 50 and 100 amps they run the as their flagship amp.
Now they have been trying every variation of possible small and combo amps that you can think of.They really stepped into the modeler territory and this amp even though is not a modeler.well it should be. Honestly this amp is a bug head scratcher for me. It is one channel and the thing is a solid sate amp. SOUNDS Other than reverb this amp is the same as the Vox 15R. There are many amp in this price range and even cheaper that have multiple channels and multiple effects. The sound you get from this amp is very good but it is just so limiting that it makes it very disappointing for me. I like this amp with a Les Paul. I ave heard it wit other guitar but my personal preference is with a Gibson Les Paul.I have to say that the amp does sound pretty decent, but I feel for the price it is limiting in so many ways. Well the more you crank the gain to more is will have that familiar Vox type gain structure. OVERALL OPINION At new these amps come in at around $120.
